How does the systematic deflation ring work?

What is the defaltion ring?

The systematic deflation ring is a product exclusively intended for use in the context of closed circuit riding or competition. The deflation ring is an additional product designed to offer a solution for motorcyclists who want to benefit from accelerated deflation of their airbag, thereby facilitating a quick return to the handlebars after a fall. IN&MOTION airbag products equipped with the systematic deflation ring meet the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) requirements for Category 2 airbags.

Usage instructions

The deflation ring must be inserted onto the Inflator (the gas generator of the In&motion airbag system). It is compatible with both Inflator references: IMI 7112 and IMI 2368.

The deflation ring must be removed as soon as you return to open road riding. It can no longer be used after being removed from the Inflator and must be discarded (even if your airbag did not deploy).

If you use your airbag both on open roads and in situations where you wish to use a deflation ring (e.g., circuit competition), we recommend having 2 inflators:

  • One Inflator equipped with a deflation ring that you will use exclusively for closed circuit riding or competition.
  • One Inflator without a deflation ring for your other activities.

You will then only need to insert the appropriate Inflator into your airbag depending on your activity!

Installing the deflation ring

If you are performing this operation after a deployment, make sure to evacuate all the air from the airbag pocket before re-installing a new Inflator.

After an airbag deployment and to carry out this operation safely, refer to the post-deployment procedure.

1. Remove the inflator completely from your airbag system

For more details on the procedure, please refer to the article "When and how do I replace my Inflator?".

Do not place your fingers on the connector at the end of the Inflator (blue or black part depending on the Inflator). Do not plug the Inflator into the connector before screwing it into the airbag.

2. Place the systematic deflation ring on the inflator following the orientation shown below

Inspect the deflation ring and discard any ring with defects or deformation.

Ensure that the deflation ring is properly aligned on your Inflator before inserting it.

Do not force the insertion of the deflation ring as it could damage it.

3. Screw and reconnect the inflator with its ring into the airbag system

For more details on the procedure, please refer to the article "When and how do I replace my Inflator?".

Removing the deflation ring (if you have only one inflator)

Removing the deflation ring does not require any additional equipment and can be done manually (reverse procedure of the “installation” procedure described above).

It is imperative to remove the systematic deflation ring from your Inflator before any use of your airbag product other than on a closed circuit or in competition.

Once removed, the deflation ring cannot be reused and must be discarded (even if your airbag did not deploy).

After a deployment or after removing the ring from the Inflator, discard the deflation ring and the used Inflator at a metal recycling site, according to local regulations.

For more details, download the User Manual for the deflation ring.

Use in competition

If you use a deflation ring in a competition, it is necessary to place the provided sticker on your airbag so that the technical inspection staff are aware of the use of this ring. Below is the recommended location for placing this sticker:

Important: this sticker must be removed when you use your airbag without the deflation ring.
