Washing
Your airbag product is not machine washable. Depending on its design, you can clean it in one of three ways.
Which method should I choose?
First, check whether the shell of your airbag is removable. It is removable if you can open it all the way around (with a zip or hook-and-loop fastener) and completely detach it from the vest. If in doubt, consult the user manual provided with your airbag product: you will find all the washing instructions specific to your model.
- Your shell cannot be removed: clean your airbag using only a sponge (method 1). It must never be immersed.
- Your shell can be removed completely: you can use a sponge (method 1), hand wash it in a basin (method 2), or rinse it with a water jet (method 3).
The components of your airbag
These terms are used in the procedures below:
- In&box: the removable electronic unit that detects falls.
- Inflator: the cartridge that inflates the airbag. It screws onto the aluminium fitting.
- Aluminium fitting: the metal part of the airbag bladder onto which the Inflator is screwed.
- Connector: the cable that connects the Inflator to the electronic system.
- Back protector: the back protection placed on the back of the airbag.
To find out how to remove and reinstall the Inflator, you can also refer to the post-inflation procedure.
Method 1: cleaning with a sponge (all products)
- Remove the In&box.
- Dampen a sponge with a little clean, soapy water.
- Clean the textile parts of your airbag. (Never wet the back of the airbag, where the electronic components are located.)
- Rinse the sponge and remove any excess soap.
- Dry with a clean cloth.
- Leave the airbag to dry on a hanger for 12 hours, away from sunlight.
- Reinsert the In&box. The Inflator LED at the top left should turn green.
Washing in a basin or with a water jet (removable shell only)
These two methods require you to disassemble part of your airbag. Before starting, read these precautions:
- Do not wash for more than 10 minutes in total, to limit water entering the airbag bladder.
- Never allow water to enter through the aluminium fitting.
- Never force the connector.
- Never wring or twist your airbag.
- Dry it on a hanger for 12 hours, away from sunlight.
Method 2: hand washing in a basin (removable shell only)
- Remove the In&box.
- Open the shell and disconnect the connector.
- Fully detach the shell (zip or hook-and-loop fastener) to remove it.
- Unscrew the Inflator, without losing the seal.
- Remove the back protector.
- Fill a clean basin with cold, clean water and a little soap or mild detergent.
- Immerse the airbag in the water and gently wash it by hand.
- Rinse it with clean water.
- Gently dry the aluminium fitting with a microfibre cloth.
- Leave the airbag to dry on a hanger for 12 hours, away from sunlight.
Once the airbag is dry, follow the reassembly steps below.
Method 3: rinsing with a water jet (removable shell only)
- Remove the In&box.
- Open the shell and disconnect the connector.
- Unscrew the Inflator, without losing the seal.
- Remove the back protector.
- Close the shell to protect the inside during rinsing.
- Hang the airbag on a hanger.
- Rinse it with clean, cold water. Keep a distance of at least 1 metre from a garden hose or shower head, and at least 2 metres from a pressure washer.
- Gently dry the aluminium fitting with a microfibre cloth.
- Leave the airbag to dry on its hanger for 12 hours, away from sunlight.
Once the airbag is dry, follow the reassembly steps below.
Reassembling your airbag after washing in a basin or with a water jet
- If you removed the shell (method 2), put it back in place without closing it completely. If you washed it with a water jet (method 3), open the shell.
- Reposition the back protector, passing the aluminium fitting through the designated hole.
- Check that the seal is correctly positioned in the aluminium fitting.
- Screw the Inflator back on.
- Gently wipe the connectors with a microfibre cloth.
- Connect the connector without forcing it.
- Clip in the Inflator and check that the aluminium fitting is correctly positioned.
- Close the shell completely.
- Insert the In&box. The Inflator LED at the top left should turn green.
If the LED does not turn green, check the connector and the position of the Inflator. If the problem persists, contact your retailer or the brand of your airbag product.
Operating, charging and storage temperatures
- The airbag product must only be used at a temperature between -20°C and 55°C (-4°F and 131°F).
- The airbag product must only be charged at a temperature between 0 and 40°C (32°F and 104°F).
- The airbag product must only be stored at a temperature between -20 and 30°C (-4°F and 86°F).
Prolonged exposure of the system to temperatures outside these ranges in these different situations may compromise the operation of your airbag product.
Remember to store the airbag product and the In&box in a clean, ventilated place, away from moisture (45 to 75%) and direct sunlight, and protected from impacts and pressure. Do not store your airbag product and your In&box near flammable surfaces or objects. Do not leave your airbag product exposed to direct sunlight (for example, under a windscreen, in a car or in a top box).
Altitude
The airbag product must only be used at an altitude below 5,000 metres.
Maintenance
The maintenance recommendations for your airbag product are provided in the user manual supplied with your airbag product. To have maintenance carried out, please contact your local retailer or the product’s partner brand.
The In&motion airbag system has been designed to withstand 3 inflations (Origin module) or 5 inflations (Essential and Performance modules), provided that the post-inflation procedure has always been followed correctly.
Recycling
In accordance with local laws and regulations, you must dispose of your product and/or its battery separately from household waste. When this product reaches the end of its life, take it to a collection point designated by the local authorities.
